What is a COC Church?

As part of the Body of Christ worldwide, we believe that God has anointed us with a mandate to pioneer and raise up churches across the nations. This is our opportunity to influence our world with the life of God.

As Jesus Christ said, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-14

COC churches
may have diverse forms of expression in order to be culturally relevant to their town, city or nation. Some characteristics are listed below:

Pioneering anointing – We have a dream to pioneer churches. Fuelled by a sense of destiny and vision, leaders collaborate to form creative strategies which cause this dream to become reality. Numbers 13:30, Jeremiah 1:10

Vision – Our vision is to ‘Reach our world for Christ’. Articulated well, this Spirit-led vision draws people and inspires them to become active partners. Habakkuk 2:2

Faith atmosphere – There is expectation that God will touch people in every church meeting. Faith in God’s word cultivates an atmosphere of faith, conducive for God’s Spirit to move. Mark 11:22-24

Breakthrough anointing – People find freedom from issues that hold them captive, thereby breaking through into a new way of living. 1 Chronicles 14:11, Luke 4:18-19, Acts 10:38

Signs and wonders – Jesus promised that signs and wonders would follow those who believe. With active faith we see God’s power demonstrated through healings and other miracles. Hebrews 2:4, Mark 16:20

Desire to lead people to new life in Christ – We have courage to share our faith with others, leading people to Jesus Christ and the abundant life He gives. Matthew 4:19, Ephesians 6:18-19

Dynamic praise and worship – In church services, exuberant praise and heart-felt worship helps people to connect with God in freedom of expression. Psalm 150:1-5, John 8:36

Presence of God – We treasure the presence of God, creating opportunities for Him to minister to people. 2 Corinthians 13:14

Response to God – People are encouraged to meet with God personally – to respond to His Spirit who dwells with us. His power helps us to live in a God-honouring manner. Romans 12:1

Family atmosphere – We welcome people into a warm, friendly atmosphere. Many have said that they felt as though they had just come home. Ephesians 3:14-15

Practical, relevant preaching – Messages preached are relevant and made applicable to people’s everyday lives. Luke 24:45

Belief in people with training opportunities – Looking beyond the exterior to the potential in people, training is offered in many areas of life and ministry. We enjoy helping people unveil their life’s purpose and significantly influence their world. Romans 13:8, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:11-13

Leadership by example – Church leaders set a good example for others to follow. 1 Peter 5:2-3

Fervency in prayer – People are taught how to pray fervently and to receive God’s answers to prayer. James 5:16, Romans 12:11

Outreaches – Beyond our local church, we reach out into numerous sectors of our local community and/or neighbouring towns. Mark 1:38
