Legacy Conference
One Life, One Chance, One Legacy
Fiji Legacy Conference 2010 was by far the biggest COC Conference held in Fiji and marked the beginning of a new page of history of COC Fiji which began 22 years ago. Under the National Chairmanship and strong leadership of Pastors Greg and Janet Schier, the conference began on Tuesday 24 August with refreshing training from COC International President Ashley and Ruth Schmierer, Ps Greg and Janet and a riveting testimony from Dave Hodgson from City Edge COC on the Sunshine Coast. Later in the day, the elections for the COC Fiji oversight were held. Pastors Sevuloni and Iva Cakau. Pastors Jerry and Erima Varani, Pastors JAck and Kula Vosawale and Pastors Jona and Lucy Waqairagata were elected for the next three years.
The Conference began with the roll call of the COC Fiji centres and 20 pastors and wives paraded into the auditorium with banners proudly displaying their Centre and its vision. A special feature was the contribution of the young COC people. A choreographed dance was performed to a song from Citipointe Brisbane. The children from Christian Outreach College also featured with an amazing hand-clap/stepping routine.
More than 600 delegates attended the day sessions with Pastor David MacDonald also speaking. At least 120 youth enjoyed electives run by Damien and Bec Hobson and Markus and Michelle Repo from Citynet COC Beenleigh. Throughout the conference Pastor Sandy Oswald from Redcliff COC ran an exciting day-long children’s workshop which culminated in a mass baptism in the Holy Ghost on the last days of the program.
The night rally were attended by over 1000 people. Youth from various centres around Fiji presented items. Pastor David MacDonald had prophesied at the Pastors Boot Camp in 2009 that God would do an amazing work in the area of creative arts through the young people and this was evidenced at the conference with a range of item never seen before. The last day of the conference was especially touching as Pastor Ashley Schmierer along with Pastor Greg and Janet presented certificates of Appreciation to each pastor and his wife for the great work they are doing.
Each speaker was given a large banner in remembrance of the conference theme “One Life, One Chance, One Legacy” and later during the Pastors lunch each centre then presented another Pastor and his wife with a surprise basket. Eighteen members of the organising committee were thrilled to see how God brought all the essential ingredients together for a brilliant conference. The 3000-seater World Harvest Centre in the capital city of Suva, owned by Christian Mission Fellowship International church was hired out by COC, and was an excellent facility in terms of auditorium, rooms for kids and youth electives, accommodation for delegates as well as beautiful lounges for the pastors to enjoy fellowship during lunch breaks. The comment made by many at the closing of the conference was the amazing connection God brought during the three days and there re most certainly great things for COC in Fiji.
